bobbyhundreds:

Father Greg Boyle has seen too much. Things that would break us, me and you. Over the past twenty-five years he has buried 180 gang members, our city’s angels.  The pain and gravity of such woes weigh down his speech, but he balances with hues of spiritual positivity and Hope.  This ‘hood Santa Claus is cavalier in his cussing and brazenly bold with his bleeding heart.  He adroitly hopscotches between the generosity of a saint and the street language of an urban soldier.  But he is intent on saving these kids (through his gang intervention program, Homeboy Industries), perfectly smart and intelligent and capable youth who flee to gang life.  Father Greg Boyle sees what no one else sees; and that is a future.  He reiterates it time and again: kinship. compassion. kinship. compassion.  They are words to live by and love by.
